Image
'Snake', the word definitely instills fear among many of us and just like everybody, i too was afraid of snakes and feared to them. But, I always had a curiosity within myself to know about these creatures and to know about the myths and misconceptions associated with them. Not just that, but I also wanted to rescue them one fine day and back in the days I used to believe that snake rescue is nothing but lifting the snake with bare hands, if it's a cobra kissing on their hood etc.. but little did I know that all these things, were dangerous and illegal...!!! I messaged many snake rescuers whom I knew either through social media or personally to teach me to handle snakes or to teach me about them and a few of them even agreed to, but since I was a kid, people used to not take the matter seriously and/or term it as 'madness'. However, It is said that not everything comes by teaching, few things come to you naturally and yes, snake rescuing came to me naturally a few

If you are one among who follows Hinduism, then most probably you may believe in 'Snake God' also known as 'Nag Dev'. But have you heard or come across any belief about the famous story of 'Nag Mani' ? If yes, then, in this blog i am going to bust the myth about the story of 'Nag Mani'. If you have not heard about the story, well good for you, at least you are getting aware about such things that maybe happening around!! So as per our ancestral belief, " if a cobra or a king cobra does not bite anyone, nor eats anything, and preserves its venom for over 100 years, the venom turns into a diamond/stone".  But again there might be a few other variations to this story as well. However, any snake be it cobra or a king cobra cannot survive without food and water which is a basic necessity. The snake has to hunt for food for their own survival. So what exactly is Nag Mani? How does it look?   The real name of this Nag Mani is  "Benzyte Carbonate&

Myths vs Facts!

Hello there, welcome back to a new blog. This blog is to make you all understand the myths vs facts about snakes that you may have heard since the ancestral period.  Snake myths are one of the main reasons for people's phobia towards these creatures and today let us break those myths and know the facts. So, below are a few myths that i have come across during my rescues while interacting with people.  MYTHS vs FACTS: 1. Myths: If a rat snake hits anyone with it's tail, one's bones can break!!    Facts : Rat snakes are harmless (non-venomous) snake specie. There are no studies/proof to show the myth actually exists.  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Myths: If a person whistles at night, it attracts snake to enter the houses!     Facts: Snakes are tone-deaf and do not have ears to hear anyone speak or whistle. Snakes senses  purely depends on its fork-shaped tongue. Whereas, few snakes like

H ello there, Welcome back! In today's blog, i am going to discuss on a topic that is most important for people to know. By understanding this, i may not guarantee to remove the fear of snakes that you may have but, i am sure that you will start observing snakes from a different perspective.  We all know that snakes are definitely not everybody's favorite animal. Snakes are carnivores in nature and their favorite prey is rodents (in general) chicken eggs, cats, birds, lizards and other small animals. They have no intentions to harm any human being. Snakes are defensive in behavior  (meaning: They defend themselves to protect their life)  Just like human beings. Snakes bite or inject venom as their last resort only when they feel threatened or cornered by someone. Studies shows that approximately 50,000 peop

These are known as the "Big 4" and includes snakes such as (Spectacled Cobra, Russell's Viper, Saw Scaled Viper and Common Indian Krait). We all need to be aware and agree to the fact that no snake wants to purposely harm or bite you. All snakes are harmless creatures and bite in self-defense when felt cornered or threatened. Snakes give you a warning too befo

How to avoid snakes from entering your houses? W e may encounter numerous snakes in our backyard either daily or maybe a frequent visitor, so how do you let the snakes not enter your house? Just follow these few steps given below: 1. Keep the surroundings clean. 2. Separate wet and dry waste by making a proper waste management system.   3. Do not throw any food around the house. 4. Do not pile up items such as coconut shells, wooden logs, and tree branches. 5. Cut the excessive branches of trees/plants/creepers that are grown. If you keep the surroundings rodent free, there is absolutely zero chances of snakes entering your home. But, there are definitely conditions that area applied to this as well.  If you keep your surroundings clean and your neighbour does not, then there are chances of snakes entering the area, also since snakes are cold blooded, there are times when if it is too humid outside, the snake may enter your home finding a cooler place to adjust its body temperature.  S
